Russel Horvey
Russel Horvey has been showing and promoting Galloway Cattle for almost 60 Years!
During those years he has exported Galloway genetics to Germany, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Mexico, and even back to Scotland.
The first Galloway cattle exhibition that Russel attended was in 1959, the Swift Current Frontier Days. That same year, he purchased his first Galloway sired calf, off a Galloway sired milk cow. He called the calf Nelly Bell. He paid $10 for the calf, money earned tying Allis Chamber small round bales for 1 cent per bale. A year later, 1960 he traded Nelly Bell for his first 4-H calf, Silver Tip. His parents kept the calf and later that year entered him in a carcass competition in Saskatoon, SK.

Big Deal Galloways
Big Deal Galloways started in 1964 with the purchase of a registered Galloway female, Dun Gal Viola E (dun) 7246, born April 12, 1964. The first Big Deal calf registered was Big Deal Iris (dun) 8987, born April 9, 1966. The Big Deal Galloway herd was built from the Dun Gal Galloway herd of Gordon and Joan Horvey, Cabri Sask. which was established in 1956 & 57.
Between 1966 & 1968, Russel got involved in the Sask. Galloway Association. Russel has been involved in the Saskatchewan, Alberta or Canadian Galloway Association since. Russel graduated 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree specializing in Animal Science. He started working for Alberta Agriculture that same year. In 1974 Russel met and married Cheryl Zdebiak (a city born girl). Russel, Cheryl and their four boys continue to show Galloway cattle at most of the major Galloway shows.
